Sitting there in silence, with all will to fight ebbing away, with the dark pit of despair once distant now inching ominously closer when suddenly – you have a feeling you are not alone. You have a sense someone is speaking and begin to focus on the sound, tuning in your ears you begin to hear a gentle comforting voice…
“You are My love, the reason I gave my life. I am and will always be faithful to you. Look to me when you are afraid, downcast, or in distress, I am right beside you, move closer under the shelter of my wings; hear my heart – it beats with love and care for you. Let me be your strength when you are weak; I will lift you up to stand and take each step with you. I am forever faithful, not just today but every day, not just in this moment but in every moment.”
It is heartwarming to hear His voice and know he sees us and hears our cries. Our tears are liquid words which he understands completely. He doesn’t just tell us he is faithful in His word, but wants us to know personally He is right there with us daily; He is not just offering, but desiring, to do life with us, every moment of everyday; not just in the difficult times to share our tears and sorrow and give comfort, but also in the joyful celebrations as well. He is a God for all times, seasons, and eternity.
What we do with His offer is up to us. He wants us to open the door and invite him in. The door we keep closed in order to avoid hurt and protect ourselves, can also be keeping the Lord, our help, on the other side as well. He desires to come in and dine with us (Rev. 3:20). What happens when we dine with someone who loves us? Perhaps build a deeper relationship; share about our day, concerns, and joys; receive encouragement and support; or know that we are not alone in what we face.
What shall we do with His offer? Will we let him in to dine with us; to do life together? Shall we be still and know He is God and tune our ears to His voice, for He is – forever faithful.
